(Proverbs 23:24-25) "The father of the righteous (doing right) shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him."
25Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice."
This does not mean they are a Christian (the parents). This means they respect it and don't have to worry about their kid. High morals and ethics on account of being a Christian bringing no shame. Of course, wisdom is as a Christian for many should bring a higher worldly/street smarts (being in and of the world) as some have been there and know how the world operates all to well, and now the spiritual, the Holy Spiritual. Honoring their father and mother, in the sense of giving birth and following the LORD.
Christians may not be liked, but they are respected in that sense. If
that were not true no one else would want it, by word and example. That
is exactly what Christ taught:
(Matthew 5:16) "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
(Notice, this is the same concept as with a Pharoah/Nebuchadnezzar. Though their hearts were hard, and they did not repent. It's a start and a chance to open their eyes up to the LORD).
Many have heard, you may be the only Bible some people read. That concept can see be seen here. But remember it cannot be done serving them (serving man), it can only be done serving the LORD. As you must love them less, not hate (Luke 14:26-27 below):
No matter what a person will always let you down (even if they are not trying, everyone falls short, we don't live in sin/desiring sin). Christ never let us down. Beside that you cannot be in-between what you serve. In other words, serve one, serve them all--in heart and mind.
(Luke 14:26-27) "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27And whosoever doth not bear his cross (denying/no to the flesh first), and come after me, cannot be my disciple."
Please reference Ephesians 5 and 6 as well.
