Matthew 11; Verses 20-24
Thank you for taking a look †
(Matthew 11:20-24) "Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
The district of Galilee in the northern most parts of Palestine. They got to see the works (this is ALL Christ had done) up close and personal. We get to weigh the evidence (compare.contrast, weigh) with prophecy which should leave with no doubts. That prophecy just concerning the first coming of Christ in which we have some 333 OT prophecies to be exact. The probability of all them happening comes to infinite, and that's a fact. Other things such as many multiple eyewitnesses, the historical record, The perfect consistency of the Bible written 1500 years apart from start to finish. The cross, the fact we need a savior. The fact man is totally morally bankrupt without the Lord and the HIS Word. Supporting factors in all education; math, science (all facets), HIStory, geography, and the list goes on.
And now we have the prophecies right before the second coming to date. There is no excuse, and there is just no excuse per Romans 1. Where Paul speaking with and through the Holy Spirit just by the intelligence of all things created we should see that YHVH, the God of the Bible exists and is at work. Put all that together separate and you have another infinite.
Repent = the 180 degree change in mind about and over sin and the results. We are to examine the cause and effect of what it did to us, then seeing what it does to others. All sin destroys and separates from God, and then people from people.
Considering all what cities could we say that about right now.
21Woe (grief, misery) unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
Chorazin means a furnace of smoke.
Bethsaida means house of fish. This is where Christ got 4 of the disciples; Peter, Andrew, Philip, and John.
(This is an easy concept. They were religious there, had their synagogues, "high" places, but rejected the Gospel and the works Christ done. Like calling yourself Christian but repentance is not where one began through belief/faith. Why no repentance? why so far away from God? Man's traditions).
(Man's tradition miss the coming of Christ. You can be as sure as the Lord is alive if some church is not teaching repentance, thus the forgiveness of sins. Along with what is to comes they are no different than these cities. Many say Jesus, but would not be able to recognize Him).
22But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
(Different levels of judgment. Another simple Bible concept. Those with the first responsibility are more accountable and will be judged more harsh. For example, teachers/Pastors on an individual level).
Tyre and Sidon Phoenician cities, and always had been.
23And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
(We're talking responsibility again. Remember, we're near the Jordan River, and we just got talking about John the Baptist Ministry. They saw and heard him about repenting and Christ to come. Told them the works were coming. Another concept here is being entitled to God, through tradition(s). How arrogant. Capernaum, you were called but rejected. Traditions to their ruin).
24But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee."
(We all know what happened to Sodom. That being said. How about those who call themselves Christian, but say homosexuality is okay. And even more that being a champion for the cause.
Amen †
