(Proverbs 18:8) "The lot causeth contentions (argument/rivalry to cease, and parteth (part ways) between the mighty."
(The mighty--each side(s) has a strong case and both are strong-willed/adamant about not giving up).
(Casting lots is NOT a form of gambling. It was to decide disputes or foreseen disputes to a resolution
that cannot be argued afterwards. Kind of like flipping a quarter,
everyone concedes afterwards. Who blames the quarter? The quarter
flipper? Blaming God, would not be a good idea. Whoever "wins" it is accepted and everyone moves on. Just as each tribe went to their own land below).
(In the end
this takes the responsibility of those who are to judge so and so
situation. Leaving with no hard feelings is the goal).
(Proverbs
18:9) "A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and
their contentions are like the bars of a castle."
(Proverbs 16:33) "The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing (decision) thereof is of the LORD."
Here is a great example, dealing with a very serious issue, and
monumental task. No one can say favoritism was shown between men. Having God's approval and His will to be shown. Take a deep look at the common sense shown here. Overall, no blame and bitterness to be left.
The 12 Tribes of Israel for the Land of Israel:
(Joshua 18:10) "And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD: and there
Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their
divisions."
(Numbers 26:55-56) "Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot:
according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall
inherit.
56According to the lot shall the possession thereof be divided between many and few."
Now the tribes (Whole House of Israel, and the House of Judah):
(We're scattered to the 4 corners of the Earth until Christ comes back now, of course. The scattered tribes of Israel collectively).
