Galatians 3; Verses 19-22; Living by Faith
Thank you for taking a look †
Here is a true Bible heart and brain "quiz." Working out one's salvation. How it's accomplished.
This is an important study. The law that came through Moses shows us our broken condition. Unrighteousness. Grace through faith is the beginning of righteousness. Righteousness = the condition acceptable to our Father then doing right, serving Christ.
(Galatians 3:19-22) "Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Serving and living to keep the law is of the flesh. It actually will bring more fear after hearing the Gospel. What do I mean? Serving the law is the way of the world. It brings fear of the consequences (we do right serving Christ). As Christians through the Spirit we are no longer in condemnation. Now, we're talking God's law through Moses, not what man makes up that directly opposes the Lord anyway.
(Romans 8:3-4) "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh."
4That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
(The last point serving the law brings fear and the fear of the consequences:
(Romans 8:15) "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."
(So, putting it together we could say one serving the law you might as well be crying out to a stone in the ground. While that same stone is crying out).
To Galatians 3:19 directly,
In other words, why do you do it? Serve the law in heart and mind? We're supposed to be serving Christ. Easily seen serving the law is self-justification and in comparison of others. No different than before salvation. Making the cross null and void. Once again, if the law could justify us then Christ sacrifice was in vain. Making the power of the cross to none effect. Essentially, all alone when it comes battling against satan. That can only be done through the cross and the Holy Spirit in us.
Saying you don't need the Father through Christ. You might as well say, "eh God I have a better plan than you", "I'll make the blueprints." Heck you might as well say you did the architectural work and framed the Heavens and earth while you're at it. After all, you know better.
(Hebrews 11:3) "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."
(The law, that God's law through Moses shows us our sin, our desire for of it. What we worship first. This is why God's law is so simple after we learn it (people say God's law is hard). It comes down to worshiping Him first, or His creation i.e. the things of the world. In other words breaking the other commandments you have to go back to number one. Why you break one, you break them all. For example, If one covets their neighbors things of the world they are not putting the Lord first. Now where is the line drawn? To long for them, desire in lust. Pretty simple line there. Kind of like sitting there daydreaming).
(Angel - Messenger of and for the Lord. They are servants. Good angels that did and do not rebel against the Lord, as satan is his did and do).
To verse 20,
20Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
(Christ and the Father are one, in spirit. Christ is the image of the invisible God. "Immanuel, God with us." The Father in the role of savior for us).
21Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
(No way, no how. The promises are there after salvation. The promises = blessings with the spiritual coming first. The inside of the cup. Righteousness should have been by the law? Point above. Saying you don't need saved, the Father, and the Father though Christ. To serve the law is to serve religion, very sacrilegious).
22But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe."
(Who has not put the things of the world first? In heart and mind. Under it = It's above our heads, we carry it. Like the weight of the world on our shoulders. Therefore, many of false preachers not teaching such as John 16:7-11 are serving bondage. The promise also along with Romans 8, the inheritance).
We conclude, serving the law is like saying, "hey, God looky what I did for you." However, serving Christ speaks of and says what He did for you. The law after salvation is for correction, not self-justification serving it.
This could also become a problem after one goes back to living in sin i.e. backslide. Coming out of it thinking we have to do something, make up for something, make up for lost time. NO, repent and move. Learn and grow from it. Help others that need help. We turn everything around on satan right in his face. Because if one is serving the law satan will be right there on the outside influence with that fear, playing off that fear. Why I also call Romans 8:12-17 a 3-part Holy Spirit check, if you will. Obviously so, we live by and through the Spirit, the Holy Spirit.
This where carrying out God's will accomplished through the Spirit. Many want to do it, but are not letting the Holy Spirit work. These are the lines, the slicing lines.
Finally, an amazing fact. It is roughly 2,000 years from Adam to Abraham. Another 2,000 years from Abraham to Christ. And yet another 2,000 years from Christ to our generation.
Amen †
